the catcher in the rye

i read the catcher in the rye this week because of this. i'm not quite sure why i chose it, but i did.

and i couldn't get out of my therapist brain the whole time. shortly into the book, i had diagnosed holden with depression. sleep difficulties, hopeless and sad feelings, few friends, poor appetite, psychosomatic complaints, poor concentration and school performance, thoughts of death and suicide...he's got it. and to go even further, i think it was probably triggered by his younger brother's death and that he was self-medicating with the alcohol.

i wonder what my take would have been on it had i read it in school when i was younger.
